Serge Racine began his career as a researcher
and specialist in evaluation, testing and docimology at the Adult
Education Service of the Montreal Catholic School Commission.
Later on, he participated in the creation of an academic service,
an offspring of CAMTER (Centre d'application de médias technologiques
à l'enseignement et la recherché - Application centre
for the development of technological media for education and research
purposes) at the Université du Québec in Montreal,
as well as in several research studies on professional training
and adult education for OECD (Organization for Economic Cooperation
and Development).
Associate professor at the University of Montreal since 1974, Serge
Racine has filled several positions, such as Director of the Evaluation
and Test Measurement Department of the Faculty of Education.
Following a Doctorate Degree in 1977, he has led several research
groups which focused on learning evaluation tools. This appointment
enabled him to train first, second and third-year masters as well
as trainers and researchers, for a total of 12 masters and 10 doctors.
He has also published hundreds of scientific documents on learning
evaluation tools such as the document titled: "Enseigner et
apprendre aujourd'hui: des objectifs à l'évaluation
des habiletés et des compétences/Current Teaching
and Learning Methods: From Objectives to the Evaluation of Competence
and Skills".
Through his research also emerged a new model, i.e. the "SYNERGISTIC
PERSON" whose main objective is to help trainers set academic
goals and develop training and evaluation plans, while promoting
the understanding of the self as well as the understanding of others.
This model illustrates the synergy between all skills acquired through
individual experience. That is why Serge Racine continuously stresses
the fact that "We become what we practice".
Several published studies have validated this model and its related
objectives. Some remarkable applications were developed from the
creation, validation and publication of personal operation evaluation
tools by Synergimax-International Inc. These tests help individuals
better understand themselves and others in several situations, such
as team work, board of directors and management duties, commercial,
professional and academic interventions, as well as career development.
Serge Racine is the author of the FAIT Program - Formation à
l'insertion au travail (WIT Program - Work Integration Training)
developed for Engage Jeunesse (Youth Employment), which stems from
the constructivist theory of the "synergistic person".
This program is subsidized by Emploi-Québec (Quebec Employment).
It has enabled several youths to integrate the business world harmoniously.
This program was also validated in the computer science sector via
computer, mutlimedia, accounting and office automation technician
training courses.
